How do you rate your satisfaction with your PLAYTIME from 1 to 5?
I am serious… Before you keep on reading, honestly answer the question.
I have been asked this as part of a broader exercise called ‘The wheel of life’, where you are invited to evaluate different areas of your life.
And guess what?
Out of all life areas, I found myself rating PLAY the lowest!
This came as a surprise to me because I do sometimes engage in activities for pure enjoyment and recreation! But apparently, I was not particularly satisfied with it.
So I did some research about how to live a more playful life and got some fascinating insights I want to share with you. But first, let’s look at the advantages of living a playful life. What are the benefits? What do we gain by being more playful?
-Improved physical health
-Reduced stress
-Increased creativity
-Enhanced social connections
-Boosted cognitive function
-Increased productivity
-Greater overall happiness
Not bad, eh?
If this resonates with you and you want to give a positive boost to your life, read on. Here is how you can live a more playful life.
Embrace spontaneity: Break out of your routine and try something new. Take a different route to work or try a new hobby.
Play with others: Connect with friends or family and engage in playful activities like board games or sports.
Create something: Engage in creative activities, such as painting, drawing, writing, or crafting.
Dance: Attend dance classes, or simply move your body to your favourite tunes.
Spend time with children: Children have a natural sense of playfulness, so spend time with them and engage in playful activities.
Travel: Explore new places, try new foods, and experience different cultures to add a sense of adventure to your life.
Laugh more: Laughter is an excellent form of play with many health benefits. Watch a funny movie, read a humorous book, or spend time with friends who make you laugh.
Rather than going for all at once, I invite you to pick one of all suggestions and make a strong commitment to yourself to make it part of your life.
Which one do you choose?
Let me know. I am curious!
Schedule it in your calendar, set a reminder, and place a post-it somewhere, so you won’t forget. Tell your loved ones to keep you accountable. Go for it, nurture your inner child and give yourself the gift of having more fun. You won’t regret it!
As for me, I made a list of playful activities I’d love to engage with and placed a weekly 3h block on my calendar on Wednesday afternoon called: “PLAYFUL INNER CHILD DATE (do not delete for any reason!)”. Last month, I went surfing, painted a wall at home deep blue, attended a drumming class and joined a Reiki circle. I feel more creative, connected and satisfied 🙂
Now tell me, what will you do to make your life more playful?
Love. Simone
